new year aaaaaand GO!

Nothing like jumping back into things with both feet. Holidays in Vancouver, Snowmageddon 2010 and 2011, TNNA and now I’m off to New York for Vogue Knitting Live. Talk about being shot out of a cannon! I have about 40 thousand blog posts half written, but they’ll all have to wait until after this weekend in NYC.

Stitchy McYarnpants and I will be giving a presentation about Knitting it Old School and some of our inspirations tomorrow afternoon (January 20th) in New York City at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio. …

Rhinebeck roundup

Man, I love Rhinebeck weekend. There is just no better time to commune with online knitterly people than at the New York Sheep & Wool festival. The leaves are turning, the weather is cooler and there is so much wool around you’re almost warm by osmosis.

Rhinebeck, ho!

I am flying around the house tonight throwing handknits in a bag and trying to remember to pack my phone charger and sharpies and spanx and socks and a toque and about 80 million other things for when we hit the road tomorrow morning. Rhinebeck is always tricky to pack for because I always try to pile in everything that I’ve knit in the previous year and usually that isn’t very space saving. I’m normally a very very efficient packer, but for some reason Rhinebeck always throws me into a tizzy.

on the air

Last Wednesday Stitchy McYarnpants and I took the day off and drove two hours out to Northampton for a visit to Webs and to guest star on the Ready, Set, Knit podcast. Stitchy was as cool as a cucumber but I was admittedly a little nervous.  Sure, I’d done the whole Uncommon Threads TV thing and had been ok with that, but for some reason I was full of butterflies. I really shouldn’t have been worried, because 1) I know Stitchy really well and she’d cut me off and cover for me …

learning to love my first two star review

Part of the process of writing a book means lots of talking about writing the book. Conversations are a lot more interesting now because anything can be connected to the joy of being published. Some people ask if it’s changed how I knit. (Not really.) Some ask if it changed how I feel about publishing. (Yes, I have more respect and sympathy for editors than ever before, even with knowing Minty!) To date no one has asked the big one, “How much has your morning routine changed?” (Lots, there’s much …

the book! it is real!

(My Blogher round up post will have to wait, because dudes! THE BOOK IS IN MY HOUSE!)

Knitting It Old School has officially started shipping and has already landed on the doorsteps of many people. We got an advance copy a few weeks ago and I’m in love. It’s just so damn exciting. I’m also a little overwhelmed with the size of it. 43 projects! I think we must have been insane. And some of those projects should be counted as two, like Minty‘s Sock Hop sweater and knee-high socks set.

And Adrian’s …

secret sekrits are secret no more

You know how it seems like it’s been FOREVER since I posted about knitting? I mean, really really posted about knitting? Not just a swatch or a stash enhancement? Truth is, I’ve been knitting. A tonne. And I’ve been working with designers. And patterns. And tech editors. And the inimitable Stitchy McYarnpants.
Behold, Knitting it Old School!
It’s up for pre-order on Amazon now, so we can finally let the cat outta the bag. Lookit! Lookit!

Stitchy and I made a book! And it’s GORGEOUS.
I’ll end up gushing about it a lot over the …
