A few months ago I talked about teaching my first class in product photography for indie designers at Webs. A few people commented I should teach the class online. I had to bite my tongue because what I couldn’t respond with was, “I know! Wouldn’t that be great? Wait a few months and I’m going to do a class with Craftsy.com!”

I know I say this every year, but there is nothing better than a weekend knitting retreat with your friends. Food, gossip, belly laughs, drinks, cheese, food, knitting. I think I should stop calling our KBC weekends a retreat, but I’m unsure what name to give them. Weekend of Shenanigans? Weekend of Cheese? Margarita Madness? I dunno.
We usually organize a swap of some sort for our weekends of tomfoolery (I’m just throwing names on the wall here people) and this year was no exception. Hats!

The Lion Brand Yarn Studio, that is.
Part of the fallout of flying home late from TNNA and then coming in on the wave of a giant snowstorm was that we had to miss our official Knitting It Old School night at Lion Brand Yarn Studio. Thank goodness the staff are accommodating and let us postpone until last week and tie it all in with our Vogue Knitting Live weekend in New York City.
I had never been to the studio before, but dudes, I have to tell you, it is a …

I’ve watched and followed along for years as some of my favourite yarn shops and designers all blog about going to TNNA. It’s only an industry conference, but because it’s knitting, it’s somehow way more fun. If it was a random widget makers conference, I’m sure it wouldn’t be exciting (unless you love making random widgets, I suppose) but a gathering of that many knitting masterminds is exciting. Stitchy McYarnpants and I flew in on Friday, January 7th (yes, I’m behind on blog posts) and kicked off our unofficial promotional …

Nothing like jumping back into things with both feet. Holidays in Vancouver, Snowmageddon 2010 and 2011, TNNA and now I’m off to New York for Vogue Knitting Live. Talk about being shot out of a cannon! I have about 40 thousand blog posts half written, but they’ll all have to wait until after this weekend in NYC.
Stitchy McYarnpants and I will be giving a presentation about Knitting it Old School and some of our inspirations tomorrow afternoon (January 20th) in New York City at the Lion Brand Yarn Studio. …

I am flying around the house tonight throwing handknits in a bag and trying to remember to pack my phone charger and sharpies and spanx and socks and a toque and about 80 million other things for when we hit the road tomorrow morning. Rhinebeck is always tricky to pack for because I always try to pile in everything that I’ve knit in the previous year and usually that isn’t very space saving. I’m normally a very very efficient packer, but for some reason Rhinebeck always throws me into a tizzy.

Last Wednesday Stitchy McYarnpants and I took the day off and drove two hours out to Northampton for a visit to Webs and to guest star on the Ready, Set, Knit podcast. Stitchy was as cool as a cucumber but I was admittedly a little nervous. Sure, I’d done the whole Uncommon Threads TV thing and had been ok with that, but for some reason I was full of butterflies. I really shouldn’t have been worried, because 1) I know Stitchy really well and she’d cut me off and cover for me …

And heaven was in Port Ludlow, WA.
You know how Stephanie and Tina have been organizing those knitting retreats in Port Ludlow? Ok, maybe you didn’t know, so I’ll tell you now. They planned an entire weekend for 45 of us to learn about silk. Knitting, dyeing and spinning with silk. Three glorious days on the Olympic Peninsula. We had the entire hotel to ourselves. It was ah-may-zing.
