Photoshoot Friday, Springtime in the Winter edition

In November I had the privilege of shooting the pattern photos for Louet’s Spring 2014 collection. Mari of Stitchcraft Marketing flew up from North Carolina and acted as stylist and photo assistant. It was a particularly tricky shoot to wrangle around the weather and backgrounds. It was November in Boston but most of the trees were bare of leaves so we could pretend it was early early spring before the trees were budding. (At least I hope that’s how it looks.)

hey, hi!

When the blog goes quiet, it usually means I’m busy, right? This time it was BUSY-busy and boy howdy, I have not had any downtime. (I even worked while at Rhinebeck!) After TNNA, Sock Summit, a trip to Milwaukee, then Vancouver, then Toronto, then Salt Lake City and somewhere in there starting a new job too, the summer and most of fall has zoomed away.
The most exciting thing has been the travel for what has officially become Splityarn Photography. Every weekend this fall I’ve been shooting and editing. I am …

easiest knitted sweater zipper install ever

One of the more dreaded knitting finishing techniques is installing a zipper. I admit it, I’ve never been a fan either. There are multiple helpful zipper tutorials out there, and I’ve used a few of them. I always came back with the same issue though; you lay out the sweater, you center the zipper underneath and try to baste in the zipper. The problem is as soon as you pick up a piece of knitted fabric, it does what knitted fabric does. It stretches and drapes and wiggles out of …

short lucky and a white russian

Do you know Thea from Babycocktails? I didn’t, until a few months ago. As it turns out though, I’d had one of her designs in my Ravelry queue for over 2 years. When I finally added her to my friends list, I had one of those DUH moments and wondered how it could have taken me so long to figure it out. (Side note: it cracks me up when someone who I see every week and emails and IM turns out not to be in my Rav friends. How does …

EZ, I do love you

I’ve knit a fair few sweaters for myself, but I was still searching for that perfect sweater.  The Husband got his on the first try, lucky duck, but I still hadn’t found that sweater I reached for when the temps dropped.  Actually, I do have one I reach for, but it’s cotton from Old Navy and isn’t going to last more than a few months, plus it isn’t…you know…wool. And I didn’t make it. So the quest for my go-to sweater continued. At the end of last winter, I got …

toque toque toque!

Can I just say how exciting it is to knit and finish something that isn’t secret knitting? It seems the whole of my time the last few months has all been secret knitting. (It seems like that because it HAS been all hush hush stuff.) Finally though, an FO I can show.
I give you Piper from the Fall 2009 Twist Collective.
I probably could have knocked this out in an afternoon, but after so much deadline knitting the last few months, I decide to really take my time with it and …
