Before starting a project, there’s usually a swatch. A lovely piece of knitting that gets washed once (if it’s lucky) and then gets fondled and measured and then tossed aside when the real knitting begins. It always seems such a shame to have these wee squares of different sizes just laying about.

When I used to work in Whistler, I spent a lot of time shovelling snow. Like, a LOT of time. Every day in the winter, whether it had snowed or not and most days in the summer too, if I was up on the glacier. It’s been 10 years, but apparently I still take pride in digging out properly.
I know most people can’t stand shovelling, but I like to think of it as a workout instead of a chore. Every scoop of snow moved is another sit-up I don’t have …
